Bharat Petroleum Case Study: The Business Case for RBI
As the refiners in India start competing in the global market, there is an emerging requirement for these refiners to effectively manage risk as well as optimize O&M budgets. This presentation provides a real-world case study on how RBI can provide significant benefits in a very stringent jurisdictional environment where regulations require that all pressure containing equipment be opened every four (4) years for internal inspection. Based on the findings of an independent study, BPCL identified the need for establishing a risk-based mechanical integrity system. After a detailed technical and commercial evaluation, BPCL selected Meridium APM for two of its refinery sites in Kochi and Mumbai. the Kochi Refinery led the implementation with Meridium’s Inspection Management and Thickness Monitoring applications in Phase 1 and then Meridium’s Risk Based Inspection module in Phase 2. The RBI implementation began with a corrosion study on the FCC and GCU units followed by RBI analyses on these units. This presentation details the Kochi Refinery’s experience with Meridium’s RBI functionality on these units as well as the potential benefits resulting from this initiative.
