The APM Stat: Safety Related Events Can Be Avoided

Based on the December 2009 APM Advisor survey which asked readers - Do you believe safety related incidents are avoidable?   

• 92.50 % answered yes, safety related incidents are avoidable
• 7.50 % answered no, safety related incidents are not avoidable

This is potentially good news! A 2008 IBM study found that 58% of all companies surveyed had experienced high-risk incidents in the last three years, in some cases causing a financial impact of up to $1.5 billion USD.  If safety incidents can be avoided, there appears to be significant human, financial, and environmental reasons for doing so.
